DID Reputation measures how credible a particular number is when it’s used for making outbound calls. DIDs and how you manage them can have a big impact on your ability to connect with your potential customers. Maintaining control over the numbers you use for dialing and knowing which numbers are “clean” significantly impacts the likelihood of your call being answered.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Have questions? We’re here to help.

Caller ID is the information that shows up on the recipient’s phone when you make a call. It typically displays your phone number and, in some cases, the name of your business. This allows the person you’re calling to see who’s reaching out before they answer.

If you customize your caller ID to include your business name, it can help build trust and recognition with your customers. This is especially useful for sales calls, as it makes your business appear more transparent and professional.

Caller ID reputation monitoring is the process of tracking how carriers and consumers perceive your phone numbers. This is also commonly referred to as phone number reputation monitoring or DID reputation monitoring.

If your number gets marked as spam too often, it can be flagged or blocked, which reduces the likelihood of your calls being answered.

Monitoring helps you stay ahead of these issues by giving you insight into when your numbers are flagged, allowing you to take action to protect your outreach efforts and maintain high connection rates.

Carriers use algorithms and user feedback to detect suspicious call patterns, including a high volume of calls from a single number, receiving negative feedback from call recipients, or having short call durations that suggest unwanted calls.

Consistent suspicious call patterns may result in your number being marked as spam, which can hurt your ability to connect with potential customers.

With Readymode iQ™, you can see when your numbers are flagged by a major carrier so you only dial from clean numbers—protecting your call lists and your reputation.

Following best practices is the best way to prevent your calls from being blocked or flagged as spam. This includes:

  1. Monitoring your number reputation: Use caller ID reputation monitoring tools to keep track of how your phone numbers are perceived and catch issues early.
  2. Respecting Do Not Call (DNC) lists: Always check the National DNC Registry and do not contact people who have opted out from receiving calls. Calling numbers on DNC lists is a major red flag that can lead to blocks and fines.
  3. Getting express consent: Ensure you have proper consent from your leads before calling, especially for marketing or sales outreach. This helps you stay compliant and reduces the likelihood of your calls being flagged.

Cleaning your phone numbers (Direct Inward Dialing numbers or DIDs) means improving their reputation to avoid spam flags. Readymode offers tools to help you monitor your caller ID reputation, however these tools do not clean or remediate your numbers for you.

To keep your numbers clean, we recommend registering your numbers, limiting the number of calls you make per number, following compliance guidelines like the TCPA, and focusing on high-quality, consent-based outreach. Learn more in our How to Maximize the Reputation & Lifespan of Your Phone Numbers (DIDs) blog post.

While nothing can guarantee that your numbers stay clean forever, following best practices can help you maintain a positive caller ID reputation and reach more leads.

Brand-new numbers can be flagged for a variety of reasons. Most commonly, carriers may flag numbers that are used aggressively right after activation, such as placing too many calls too quickly or being associated with suspicious patterns.

To avoid this, warm up your phone numbers by increasing call volume slowly, and monitor their reputation from the start to catch any issues early on.

The recommended number of calls can vary by carrier, but generally, it’s best to limit outbound calls to around 80 calls per day per phone number (up to a maximum of 100 calls a day).

Making too many calls can seem suspicious to carriers, who might associate your number with spam-like behavior. Keeping your daily call volume under these thresholds helps maintain your phone numbers’ reputation and avoid getting flagged as spam.
